GEOLOGY AND LANDFORMS
Most of the rocks in Canyonlands came from from distant mountain ranges. For millions of years rock was broken down and carried here by wind and water. The landforms in Canyonlands were shaped by erosion. The Green and Colorado rivers began carving into the rock creating the canyons and landforms that are there today. The rivers are not the only form of erosion though. Heavy thunderstorms and high winds also have shaped the rock over time. The Landforms of Canyonlands took over 300 million years to be formed and shaped.
